reverence
an electroacoustic work by hub’s gleb kanasevich
About the Project
Reverence is a 25-minute electroacoustic work by Hub’s very own clarinetist/composer Gleb Kanasevich. The work explores themes of personal spirituality and family. Of this piece, the composer writes:
A piece for heavily augmented Hub, Reverence pays homage to the personal spirituality of the places we are from and the idea of family. Utilizing only the highest woodwinds, objects, preparations, and motors to integrate the woodwinds with the strings, the piece starts from a single interval nucleus and gradually turns into simultaneously a chant and a patient “processional”. The performers slowly learn to find each other, communicate, and acclimate to their ever-changing sonic artificial environment (the electronics). One small change in the electronics eventually forces our primary focus to shift from communication between people to interacting with objects. Performers gradually move beyond simply playing their instruments to playing augmented versions of those instruments, treating them more as greatly aged found objects, and clinging desperately to a distant memory of what music used to be.
